September 23rd is traditionally the Stramos Roman Vampiri most beloved day. La multi ani Mama! (say this all day to everyone you meet) This translates to Happy Birthday Mother. This is what we Romanian Vampiri say on Recolta (Harvest) day. We give thanks to Mother Earth for all it has given to us. This is an all day celebration.
(1) You start by tending what plants you have in the moring. This is followed by the picking of spent flowers (dead heading) then the gathering of buds (place flowers in a stone vessel as an offering to Mother Earth). This vessel should be made of stone, earthen ware or wood, an old garden pot will do. No plastic!
(2) You eat Lunch at 3pm (what ever you like) and spend the day with family.
(3) set up your temple to Mama Natura (Mother Nature), (some sort of tent or overhang). underneath it should be a table and chairs to eat off of.
(4) Place the offering in the vessel and lay it at the foot of the tallest tree. It is important to note that the "offerings" must be of any colour but white. White flowers don't count as an offering.
(5) Place out your Sarbatoare (feast) on the table. This should include sweets and cakes only (dessert type foods). and gather your friends.
(6) Eat at ora nouasprezece (8pm).
(7) la miezul noptii ( at midnight) you walk the fields with a lanterna (lantern) giving thanks in anyway you choose. It is also important to note that the lantern must be with a candle NO FLASHLIGHTS.
If you have joined us late or dont have a temple constructed then just sit outside and eat sweets with a friend and lay flower pedals on a slab of stone. This will honor the intent of the festival.
Thank you for coming and celebrating the Recolta Festival with me La multi ani mama"
